John Terry
By Sam Mawson

You may have heard that the current Chelsea captain, and the former England captain, John Terry, has been accused of cheating on his wife, Toni Poole. Not only that, it was with his teammate, Wayne Bridge’s, ex girlfriend: Vanessa Perroncel.
Fabio Capello, the England manager, has stripped the England captaincy from Terry as a result of his actions. However, the England star reportedly plans on winning his captaincy back before the start of the world cup, when England play USA on the 12th of June in Rustenberg.

It has recently emerged that Capello has chosen Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, to fill Terry’s boots, and take the role of captain. Clearly, his reasons for this must be that John Terry has not set a good example, and does not deserve to continue to be England captain, and of course, he might no longer get on with his fellow countrymen, and cause friction in the side. However, after Ferdinand failed to undertake a drugs test back in 2003, and has recently got a 3 match ban for violence. You begin to question Capello’s decision; should John Terry’s actions be overlooked, just as Ferdinand’s appear to have been. Some are skeptical in having Ferdinand for this vital position, too, being that he is not the current captain for his club, though he has before, as well as leading England at times. So, what do you think? Who would your chosen captain be? And finally, do you think that the recent controversy will effect England’s chances this summer, with some saying it is their biggest opportunity to lift the World Cup in many years - as it is said to be their strongest squad.
