The Boxer Rebellion

The Boxer Rebellion is a multi-international, four-piece band based in London. They are currently performing on a world-wide tour, which began in the UK, spreading their new wave music around the world. The boxer rebellion's sound has extended the boundaries of stereotypical indie and alternative music, creating a new, inspiring genre.

Most people will have come across The Boxer Rebellion whilst watching the hit movie 'Going the distance', starring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long. The band, in fact, acted as one of the bands to be signed, on a record deal, within the movie. In the film, he takes his girlfriend 'Drew Barrymore' to see the band live and The Boxer Rebellion perform one of their latest songs, 'If You Run'. This song literally blew me away. The composition of the rhythm section and the dramatic vocal line, combine to form something magical. I would even go as far as to say that their vocalist, Nathan Nicholson, was as good as successful artists such as Chris Cornell and John Mayer. Many record companies, within the music industry, find it difficult to find bands that truly deliver the full package, however I believe that this band is guaranteed for success.

Recently, I had the opportunity to see this rare delight of acoustic music, on stage at The Cockpit, in Leeds. As soon as we entered the venue, with a mass of other fans, I could see the variety of people within the audience and after listening to the music; I now understand how they appeal so many different people. There was literally a song to suit everyone. They started off with a mellow record and then went straight to the upbeat tracks, which built up a fantastic atmosphere. The Boxer Rebellion played a selection of songs, from their four albums, however their set list consisted mostly of records from their latest album 'The Cold Still'.

The range of music they performed and the skill in which their sound was put forward, made everyone in the crowd go crazy with excitement, even whilst playing the more mellow records. Nathan Nicolson's vocals were perfectly in tune throughout and his interaction with the audience was fantastic, as everyone felt involved. I also admire how he 'let himself go' wild on stage, performing with genuine confidence, even as he jumped into the crowd! All the fans participated and sang along and it was clear that the band really appreciated the audience involvement. This band is a unique and original combination of music, creating an inspiring sound, that I believe everyone should try listening too.
